About the Author
Kenneth Knight joined the (British) Royal Navy in July 1942 during World War Two and saw service in submarines.
Leaving the navy he graduated in mechanical engineering and rose to become superintendent of a major power plant. In 1966 the author came to the United States to join one of the world's foremost engineering and construction companies, where he held senior positions in the design of major electric generating stations, both conventional and nuclear.
Subsequent activities included, in his sixty-sixth year, sailing his 28 foot sloop across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii.

Interesting, but flawed

This is my second attempt at understanding Einstein's theory of relativity. The first was Hawking's "A Brief History of Time", which got too difficult for me once gravity was introduced to the lesson. Knight's book is only about the special theory, which is simpler than the general theory. This book is more accessible than Hawking's, but Knight meanders and wanders all over the place with distracting anecdotes that don't contribute to the lesson. His "doors on a fast moving train" analogy, that's fundamental to understanding the whole book, is clumsy and fraught with contradictions and errors. I'm still looking for an explanation from someone that can progress from simple ideas to more complex ones in small, concise, focused, steps.
