In Kat Stephenson's Regency England, magic is even more shocking than a stolen kiss. But now that she's eighteen, it's time for wild and magical Kat to be introduced to high society by her older sisters, whether she likes it or not...and to finally have a romance of her own!

Of course, her true love is hopelessly ineligible. But when has Kat ever let Society's opinion stop her from making up her own mind? Once she realizes she's found her perfect match, she's not going to let anything or anyone stand in their way - even if she does have to solve a magical mystery, matchmake for an old friend, and break a few rules along the way!

Kat All Grown Up
By K. M. Martin
Fans of the Kat, Incorrigible series won't want to miss this novella that takes place five years later. Kat has finally lost her battle to postpone her debut into society and is being prepped for her first ball when she is summoned to Guardian headquarters for a new assignment. There is an illusionist about who is impersonating society types and attending social event in order to rob unsuspecting guests.

The plan is that Kat and three associates, who are posing as prospective suitors, will search for the illusionist at the Season parties. Her three co-conspirators are the Marquess of Lanham, the Honorable George Packenham, and Alexander Harding. Alexander isn't a member of the Order despite being the son of the former leader of the Order. His father never married his mother making him socially ineligible. That's really too bad because Kat met him five years earlier and fell in love with him.

Now reunited, both Kat and Alexander know that they can't have a future together and it is breaking both of their hearts. Despite that, they manage to find a way to identify the illusionist, with a couple of embarassing incidents along the way, and stop him. There's a "happy ever after" ending too.

It was nice to see what has been happening since the conclusion of Stolen Magic. I liked seeing that Kat's sisters were happy in the relationships that Kat helped them find. It was also nice to find that the sisters got along much better now that they were all adults.

Kat's all grown up
By Amazon Customer
For all fans of Kat Stephenson, this is a most welcome return visit to her and her world. For people who haven't discovered Kat yet, go read the other books right now! In the first Kat book (Kat Incorrigible or A Most Improper Magick in the UK) we meet our heroine as a young lady with two older sisters in need of good matches to save their family from financial ruin. But that's not really the most pressing issue. There's also the fact that one of them is practicing illegal magic, their late mother was rumored to be a witch, and Kat appears to have inherited yet another type of magical gift that makes her eligible for entry into the Guardian Order, with its many noble and high ranking middle class members - but nobody discusses *that* in polite society either.

It's Jane Austen's England, complete with highwaymen, on the outside and all magical intrigue behind the scenes. In this novella we see Kat again, this time of marriageable age. Her family has arranged for her to come out into society at a ball, and the Guardians assign her a mission to complete at the same time. All she has to do is appear to be a true lady while at the same time hunting down a thief and con artist who uses illegal magic. Easy, right?

Oh, and one of the other magic workers assigned to help her is none other than Alexander. If you don't know who he is, trust me, you want to. Go read the other books already!

Kat is good company, first of all
By Amazon Customer
Kat is good company, first of all. Her voice is so real, funny, and likeable that the plot hardly matters; I'd read a book about her favorite breakfast foods if Burgis wanted to write it. But the plot of this novella is fun too, filled with badly behaved princes, nefarious doings at elegant balls, and villains in disguise. Kat finally gets a romance of her own, but she remains herself, sensible, straightforward, and uninterested in social niceties, in a world where women are expected to make a career of social niceties. I only wish it were longer.
