Trent's Long Awaited Return

After a long wait, the best science fiction series I've ever read sees the return of its most charismatic character. Trent the Uncatchable is back and as suave and debonair as ever, the entire story is packed with the fast-thinking action and meticulously planned subterfuge that made The Long Run my favorite book in any genre.

I could write for pages on the things I like about these books, from the amazingly accurate science in this science fiction, to the witty and clever dialogue, to the strong and competent adversaries that make Trent's story all the more incredible, but for the sake of brevity I'll just say that DKM's story deserves far more attention than it has found. Dune, Ender's Game, no science fiction matches this series for writing or story. If there is any downside to the Continuing Time (other than publishing difficulties) it's only that you wish the story kept going when the book is over.

But the thing that most excites me about this book is not the fact that it is finally published, but that subtitle "Book 1". After nearly losing hope that the AI War would ever see the light of day, to see that DKM still intends to continue telling his story is the best news I've had all year.

Seriously. There are a handful of authors I consider to be criminally underpublished by their publisher. Mr. Moran is one such. It has been a continual source of bafflement among my friends and I that this situation has gone on so long.

Happily, he seems now to be back 'in print'. I don't know whether its sanity among the publishers, or if he's going independent with the ebooks, but I'm glad just the same.

If you like cyberpunk at all, read his stuff. Start with Emerald Eyes and read forward from there. The books are all self-contained and entertaining on their own, but the reader will benefit greatly in from having read the works in sequence, as events build over the series.

A short story set in one of the best Sci-Fi universes ever

I've purchased 3 copies of Emerald Eyes, 3 copies of The Long Run, and one copy of The Last Dancer. What the IT world has gained in the form of Daniel Keys Moran, the readers of his science fiction have lost.

That said, I'm having trouble recommending this as a full-fledged book. This pains me - it is not without some fear that this is seen as a rejection of the author's works. But it's not a long tale this time, built with the richness of characters and story that comes from a complete book. There isn't time for serious reflection, where you feel deeply about the entire piece. The characters are treated as such known quantities, that limited development occurs. It's nominally about the boost, but about how known and unsketched characters walk around during the scenario. In previous installments, the boost is only part of the whole book...it is a tool, a weapon, a volley, a celebration of being alive and willing to fight for it.

I downloaded Kindle to read and buy this book. I would guess if it was published as a paperback, the book would be about 270 pages - about half the size of his other books in the series. I'm not giving up on the series, but to not share my cautionary experience would be unfair to the review system. Mark me down as a "$8 is a lot for a short story, but I hope it signals to the author not to give up on finishing A.I. War."

About the Author
Ronald L. Fournier is a professor in the Department of Bioengineering at The University of Toledo. He is also the founding chair of the Department of Bioengineering. During his twenty years at Toledo, he has taught a variety of chemical engineering and bioengineering subjects to include courses in biochemical engineering, biomedical engineering transport phenomena, biomedical engineering design, and artificial organs. His research interests and scholarly publications are in the areas of bioartificial organs, tissue engineering, novel bioreactors, and pharmacokinetics.

Prof. Fournier is on the editorial review board of Technology and Healthcare in the International Journal of Health Care Engineering. He is a research journal reviewer for the following journals: AIChE Journal, Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Biomaterials, Cell Transplantation, Tissue Engineering, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry, and Enzyme & Microbial Technology. Prof. Fournier is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Chemical Society, Cell Transplantation Society, Biomedical Engineering Society, American Society of Engineering Education, and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical & Biological Engineering.

It's a text book

What can I say, odds are you have to buy this whether you like it or not. In the off chance that you don't this one of the better Engineering text books. One huge thing is that it has a list of variables in the beginning of the book. This is NOT common in engineering text books and is a great help, especially if you are forgetful like me. It included examples that, while helpful, did not always explain their logical leaps or assumptions.

Taking it to the next level!!

I was lucky enough to go to the 2 day Original Strength seminar this year. This book brings together the second day of the seminar in a way that is approachable and accessible to people of all ages. The daily use of resets has allowed me to be active with my kids on a daily basis. Every couple of days I throw in the Original Strength Performance exercises to super charge my day.

Thanks guys for the great work!

P.S. If you have a chance definitely take the 2 day seminar, worth ever penny!

Good follow up to Original Strength!

If you have read the authors previous books like Original Strength or Pressing Reset than this book is a good supplement.

Like the previous books, it is well written and simple to understand. But the biggest effect is if you actually implement and practice the resets and how you benefit.

I was introduced to these resets back in 2011, and they assisted in an strenuous athletic challenge that I was participating in.

However, it's the daily use of the resets that provide the most powerful results.

The basic resets can range from non-taxing to strenuous.

With the information in this book, you will have the knowledge to make it into an intense training regime.

If you want a training program that will make you stronger, help you burn body fat, and be still low impact, and plain develop quality movement patterns, there aren't many programs better.

The Perfect Progression to Original Strength

These guys did exactly what the title says...they took the simplicity and brilliance of Original Strength and gave us the performance angle of the system. I've been using these loaded resets for 3-4 months now and it's helped me first and formost feel great, but it's also made it easier to achieve other goals that I've set. I would recommend anyone interested in a healthy, well balanced body to invest in this series of books. Original strength is the starting point but once you have spent some time getting comfortable with the unloaded resets it's time for Original Strength Preformance. Great work guys!
