• Remember, early decisions in development set the supply chain foundation for life. Seek to understand the chemistry, manufacturing & controls (CMC) information submitted to the regulatory filing. Your supply chain is limited to what goes in there – make it your business to know and influence Module 3 (CMC) of the common technical document (CTD/eCTD).
• There is no such thing as a ‘quick fix’ in supply chains because of the complex interrelationships. To get to true root-cause, it is necessary to follow the ‘systemic’ path for answers – and the path can lead to very unexpected quarters – such as the door of the supplier to your supplier’s supplier!
• Integration is king – the various disciplines of Production & Inventory Control, Procurement, Transportation/ Storage & Distribution, Information Systems and Improvement must link closely together, and with external stakeholders, to deliver the optimum results for the customer.
• Tools and techniques have their place – but firstly focus on common sense principles based on management of The Wholesome Trinity – inventory, capacity and lead-time.
• Use big picture maps and A3 Management to get your arms around issues and opportunities in the internal and extended supply chain.
• Beware of placing too much dependence on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems – only use the essential functionality identified by your strategic review of Information System needs.
• Improvement is important to maintain competitive advantage, but it must be carefully targeted at the areas that can make a difference. A kaizen event to increase overall operational effectiveness (OEE) on a non-bottleneck machine or operation, it likely to merely increase waiting time.

Very useful and Must read if you are in pharma or logistics industry

I've been built my career experience at premium logistics service companies for Life Science/Biopharma Industry.
It was great pleasure to find this book because it is very useful and easy to understand both my logistics industry and customer's industry. Following my experience, customers think logistics is important but they don't know it well, and logistics providers want to provide good service to the customers but they don't know customer's requirement well. This book will be a good guide if you're in drug industry and/or logstics industry.

Great book!

This was exactly what my hubby and I were looking for to help spice up our sex life. Lots of new and fun ideas. I'm not very creative nor adventurous, so doing these "exercises" has stretched me beyond my comfort zone more than a few times. But it has been so good for us as a couple.

This is an amazing book! A must get for all couples out there! I was at first very skeptical, thinking that it had some outrageous ideas that required acrobatics and/or whips and chains...with maybe a tolerance for pain. However, after reading several reviews, I decided to give it a try...and I love it. My husband ADORES it! :) Let me assure you that it doesn't require any special moves or any tolerance for pain (red rooms of pain are not my thing at all). All that it requires is you being willing to try some new things out...and some confidence.

Great introduction into Harry Potter

I bought this set for my adult daughter, who, like me, didn't get into Harry Potter until recently. I enjoyed the whole series so much I wanted to share it with her, so I bought the first three books for her. I wanted to get the original British versions and found this set through the Small Business Bookstore on Amazon. I have used this store for other purchases and always find they exceed my expectations.
Reading these books really is like being in a different world. I'm reading them for the 2nd time now and it's like visiting an old friend. Whenever I want to relax and make a brief getaway, I simply pick up one of the books and head off to Hogwarts with Harry, Ron and Hermione. I have really enjoyed the books so much more than the movies because the books really fill out the characters and show us more of their lives and I understood better what they are going through and why they make the decisions they do. I think the books do better by Ron than the movies do. I really found myself drawn to Professor Lupin. If you are not hooked after the first, you will definitely be hooked by the Prisoner of Azkaban. The books seem to grow with the children and become deeper and more thoughtful. A thoroughly enjoyable series.

This book is about the vital subject of business logistics/ supply chain—an area of management that has been observed to absorb as much as 60 to 80 percent of a firm's sales dollar and that can be essential to a firm's competitive strategy and revenue generation. This management area has been described by many names, including physical distribution, materials management, transportation management, logistics, and now supply chain management. The business activities of concern may include all or part of the following: transportation, inventory maintenance, order processing, purchasing, warehousing, materials handling, packaging, customer service standards, and production.

The focus of this book is on the planning, organizing, and controlling of these activities—key elements for successful management in any organization. Special emphasis is given to strategic planning and decision making as perhaps the most important parts of the management process. The mission of this managerial effort is to set the level of the logistics activities so as to make products and services available to customers at the time, place, and in the condition and form desired, in the most profitable or cost-effective way.

Because logistics activities have always been vital to companies and organizations, the field of business logistics/ supply chain management represents a synthesis of many concepts, principles, and methods from the more traditional areas of marketing, production, accounting, purchasing, and transportation, as well as from the disciplines of applied mathematics, organizational behavior, and economics. This book attempts to unify these into a logical body of thought that can lead to the effective management of the supply chain.

As with any field of management, there-are frequently changing terms to capture the methods and concepts of business logistics/ supply chain. Second, a triangle of interrelated transportation, inventory, and location strategies are at the heart of good logistics planning and decision making. This triangle is emphasized through the text.

Several trends have been noted that affect the scope and practice of business logistics/ supply chain. These have been integrated into the body of the text as application illustrations of the fundamental ideas being presented. First, emphasis is placed on logistics/ supply chain in a worldwide setting to reflect the growing internationalization and globalization of business in general. Second, the shifting toward more service-oriented economies by industrialized nations is emphasized by showing how logistics concepts and principles are equally applicable to service-producing firms as they are to product-producing ones. Third, attention is given to the integrated management of supply chain activities, as well as managing these activities among the other functional areas of business as well as across multiple enterprises. Fourth, many practical examples are given to show the applicability of the material. Fifth, computer software is provided to assist in solving logistics/supply chain problems reflecting the growing use of computer technology in managerial decision making.

I realy learnd a lot about logistics supported by this book. Actually I am a retired, but some times I am invited to conferences about logistics and I get many topics based in this book as well as in my own experiences. I complete my professional formation whith other books, bassically on Operations Research, from authors as Buffa and Sarins, Taha, Richmond, Nahmias, and of course about Productona and Inventory Control from Ploss and Wight.
